# Oh My Pi Workbook

A complete practical guide to OMP sessions, memory, tangent subagents, tool permissions, and extensions, with fictional labs, intact examples, and explicit evidence boundaries.

[Open the workbook](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/) · Edition source date 2026-08-30 · Content revision omp-workbook-2026-08-30.1

One complete reading project combines 5 source workbooks: **Memory**, **Tan tangent subagents**, **Tool permissions and approvals**, **Extensions**, and **Session Continuity**. All 78 source chapters appear alongside introductions, cross-part connections, a glossary, and a conclusion. Tan means OMP tangent subagents, not TanStack. This is independent educational material, not an OMP client, hosted API, or MCP service.

## Read by part

Begin with [Start here](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/unified-start-here.md), then choose a part.

- [Sessions, resets, and reviewable history](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/unified-continuity) · [Markdown](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/unified-continuity.md): Choose the intended conversation, change only the intended session boundary, and inspect the full representation before considering disclosure.
- [Memory and reusable knowledge](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/unified-memory) · [Markdown](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/unified-memory.md): Distinguish current context from retained evidence and reusable procedures, then inspect scope and outcomes instead of trusting memory acknowledgements.
- [Tangent work and live control](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/unified-tan) · [Markdown](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/unified-tan.md): Find the exact tangent, address its current conversation, and separate view changes, turn interruption, job cancellation, revival, and terminal intent.
- [Tool permissions and approvals](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/unified-permissions) · [Markdown](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/unified-permissions.md): Explain why a particular tool call is allowed, prompted, or denied by following its operation, tier, policy identity, host capabilities, and actual effect boundary.
- [Extensions inside those boundaries](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/unified-extensions) · [Markdown](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/unified-extensions.md): Build explicit human and machine capabilities whose permissions, state lifetimes, delivery, loading, and verification match the host that actually runs them.

This is the concise overview, not the full manuscript. The [homepage contents](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/) and [agent chapter directory](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/llms.txt) link every chapter; each canonical `/chapters/<id>` page has its own `.md` edition. [Download the complete Markdown book](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/tutorial.md) only when you need the whole manuscript.

## Choose a reading path

- **Return to a known conversation without restoring old files** — Use this route when a history is missing, the newest conversation is the wrong one, or a project directory has moved; establish identity and scope before adding work. [Start reading](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/continuity-start-here.md).
- **Understand why an old fact returns after a reset** — Separate retained history, cached injection, scoped memory, and reusable skills; work through the fictional inspection stories without disclosing real memory. [Start reading](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/continuity-the-continuity-ledger.md).
- **Find, redirect, and leave an already-running tangent** — Start with the current recipient, then distinguish steering, follow-up, observation, revival, cancellation, and explicit kill; do not substitute a Main session reset for a focus change. [Start reading](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/tan-a-tan-is-already-running.md).
- **Give an agent a capability without giving it a blanket grant** — Follow the smallest-surface decision through shared human/tool behavior, branch-aware state, one-action authority, portable UI, and realistic verification. [Start reading](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/extensions-choose-what-to-build.md).
- **Keep delayed results with the conversation that requested them** — Use this route when a result arrives twice, disappears from later job snapshots, or reaches the wrong branch; distinguish work lifetime, owner identity, committed body, and wake-up. [Start reading](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/continuity-the-continuity-ledger.md).
- **Inspect a complete packet without a live share** — Choose the correct snapshot, inspect older and nested fictional history, and separate local acceptance, external script loading, redaction, encryption, and disclosure authorization. [Start reading](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/continuity-start-here.md).
- **Explain and repair a blocked or unexpectedly unprompted tool call** — Identify the exact operation and current scope, trace the effective policy through modes, rules, dispatch, launch inputs, and child construction, then choose a bounded recovery without making yolo the default fix. [Start reading](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/chapters/permissions-start-with-the-operation.md).

## Explore without touching OMP

- [Memory interactive lab](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/labs/memory) · [Markdown companion](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/labs/memory.md): the original five fictional stories and simulator controls. It does not read or change real memory.
- [Example progression explorer](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/#story-explorer): Permissions, Extension, and Continuity stories connect goals, source files, recorded observations, and limitations. It is a reading illustration, not execution.
- [Lesson checklist](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/#lesson-checklist): self-reported browser progress, not proof of understanding or a successful OMP operation.

## Download source examples

- [Combined examples.zip](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/examples.zip): the original public examples plus Permissions fixtures, with their relative paths preserved.
- [Original Extensions archive](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/downloads/extensions-examples.zip)
- [Original Continuity archive](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/downloads/continuity-examples.zip)
- [Permissions fixtures archive](https://present-sketch-tp94.here.now/downloads/permissions-examples.zip)

Chapter links under `/examples/` open inert source text. Downloading does not install or run code, resume sessions, or export data. Memory and Tan have no invented example bundles.

## Browser interfaces and evidence

`window.ompWorkbook` v1 has `tutorial-only` scope on unified reading pages. It exposes `discover`, `inspect`, `query`, `act`, `wait`, and `diagnose`; query searches authored chapters, not your machine. Its checklist key is `omp-workbook-checklist-v1`. Shared `/book-data.js` is static book content, not a backend.

The Memory lab alone retains the separate `window.memoryTutorial` v1 interface and `omp-memory-workbook:checklist:v1` lesson state. Do not use workbook IDs or revisions in the lab. Neither interface accesses real OMP, memory stores, transcripts, credentials, tools, or terminals. Support pages and Markdown expose neither interface.

Original source dates, Mnemopi settings, proof counts, and observations remain historical snapshots. New site checks do not rerun the original provider or TUI exercises. A copied observation, returned output, delivery, approval, and disclosure are different facts.

Authorship: Five source-grounded topics integrated with Ultima at max reasoning; original source chapters and examples preserved, with historical and new verification kept at their stated scope. Reading is free and requires no account; OMP and model-provider access or costs are separate.
